Week 30, Day 212, November 21, 2009, The Purrfect Model, Weekly Winner

Our cat is almost a perfect model.  She will allow me to take photos, and just sits there very calmly.  I can move lights around, and have her look in different directions.  As long as the dog isn't around she's great.

This is the second of my indoor shooting. It was a lot of fun.

Lessons Learned:
  • I'm freaking out less and less on making sure that I take the perfect photo everyday.
  • Some of my earlier lessons are just becoming part of the routine.  I think I notice how I'm shooting, what's in the background, lighting, focal length more naturally.  This allows my mind to become more creative, and think of other things that I'm not as in tune.
Photo details: Exposure time 1/160, Aperture f/1.8, ISO 1600, Focal Length 50 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 81mm, Lens Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, hand held.

Weekly winner in online viewer poll.

This Monochrome concept came from Aileni at The Monochrome Weekly

I'm not allowed to be close to cats for medical reasons, but I had owned one, it I would have like one that could a a model like that!

A very interesting way to show off a cat. Way above the usual "pus-pus" shots.

How fun is it to have a model to practice on. The eyes sure pop in this picture!

I agree with not worrying about the "perfect" shot. Sometimes I just take pictures and know that with the lessons learned there are bound to be good ones. Nice to hear that your lessons are sticking with you!

Thanks for the compliment on the blog. Thought I'd mix it up! :)

Great shot, love the b/w! You are lucky she's cooperative about posing for you. Animals can be funny and indifferent toward the camera. I used to use my dog as a model all the time, and she just would NOT have it! She would get disgusted and run away (rest her little soul). One of my professional instructors specializes in dog portraits http://www.gooddogphoto.com/. I call her the "dog whisperer" as I have never seen anyone who was able to get the best out of a dog (or any animal for that matter) and capture their personalities so accurately and sweetly. You definitely captured a sweetness in your cat.

You're learning your lessons well. This photo is purrfect. Photographers, just like writers, produce the best results when they "write" freely to get the words or images out there. Then you pick the good stuff and make it better.

She is a beautiful cat and so cooperative. My cat immediately runs to me when she sees the camera, she does her best to avoid the lens. Great shot, perfect in B&W.
