Week 25, Day 182, October 22, 2009, Halloween is Approaching

It's getting that time of year.  The leaves are falling, the end of October is approaching.  It was time for a spooky photo.

There are a lot of really neat buildings at Cornell University that make great shots for photos.  The skies were starting to get cloudy, and this building has more of the iron work on top.  I like the single oak leaf floating off the branches on the left, and is near the top of the building. (You might have to click on the image to see it more fully.)

Lessons Learned:
  • I started playing with filters on the Black and White setting on my camera.  The filters tend to make that color lighter in the photo.  i.e. A red filter will make a red hat white.  It could be fun to play with that some more.
Photo details: Exposure time 1/1600 sec, Aperture f/5.6, ISO 200, Focal Length 23 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 37mm, Lens Canon EF 17-40mm, handheld, circular polarizer filter.

That is a really cool shot. Colleges are excellent places to take pictures. I did several posts featuring Princeton. I love the fact that you captured the falling leaf so well, that's something I have trouble doing.

Nice you chose to shoot this pic in the monochrome format! It looks really amazing as the white illuminated clouds in the sky look really lively!

It absolutely is a picture that deserves monochrome, and I think you have done nice job.

Personally, I prefer shooting the picture in colours and than change to monochrome in software. This usually gives you more options, does a better job - and you can always change your mind.
